It
is hard to believe that we are more than 1/2 way through the 2008 Main
Stage Season. It has been a lot of work but also a lot of fun.
Our first show, "The
Man Who Came to Dinner" had the
largest cast we had ever worked with and it was a great show.
"M*A*S*H"
was a huge hit as we got to peek in at the doctors, nurses and staff of
the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean
War.
During
June, WBCT participated in the first Gwinnett County Community Theatre
Festival where we presented "Steel
Magnolias" to a wonderful
audience. We even won the award for the highest attendance in the
Black Box Theater at the Aurora.
BUT- we didn't rest there:
Just
a few weeks ago, we completed two weeks of Children's Drama Camp, hosting
over 100 youngsters. Thanks to a very good grant from the Jackson
EMC Round-up Foundation to help defray expenses, tuition for camp was
free to all. On July 12th, WBCT's Children's PLAYhouse
presented tow performances of "A
Cat's Tale" to thrilled
audiences of children and adults. On Friday night, July 25th,
we will open our first musical production. "Li'l
Abner" is a fun-filled,
foot-stomping musical, based upon the comic strip by Al Capp. Our Main
Stage Season will close with the mystery "It
Was a Dark and Stormy Night",
opening October 24th. And we will close out our theater year with
our Christmas Gift to you all - December 6 & 7 presentations of "Once
Upon a Time", an original
play written by Winder's own Jimmy Terrell. Those of you who were
fans of the old Critics Choice Theater Group will remember this popular
play from there holiday repertoire.
So,
have we made you just the slightest bit curious about the work and play
involved in live theater? Are you just the slightest bit interested
in a volunteer career on - behind - in front of the stage? If
you would like to join the theatre group, please feel free to attend
one of our monthly meetings or let one of us know. We are always
looking for people to work back stage, help with concessions, hand
out programs, and the list goes on and on. This is a volunteer
group so we count on people like you to help us.
T hanks
again for your support through the years. As we continue to grow,
we pledge to do our best to provide first class entertainment for
you and your family. Our Children’s PLAYhouse Division works to
provide camp and events suitable for children while our Main Stage
Season is geared towards older teens and adults. Let us know what
you think about our shows. We love to hear from you.
See you
at the theater.
